My name is Steve Smith. I am a Minneapolis-based commercial photographer who has been creating images for a variety of corporate and agency clients for the last 20 years. My goal is to deliver creative, high-quality solutions to my clients in a positive friendly environment.
I knew I wanted to be a photographer after spending the summer in the Badlands of North Dakota when I was thirteen. That summer my Uncle gave me my first “real” camera, an Agfa Karat 35mm rangefinder. When I got my first roll of Kodachrome slides back I was hooked. Back home, I took every photo class in high school that I could. I also had the good fortune to have a great high school teacher
I went on to Southern Illinois University and received a B.F.A. in photography. SIU has an excellent photography program made up of dedicated faculty and enthusiastic students. It also had a great network of alumni in Chicago, where I assisted several commercial shooters. When it was time for me to “hang the shingle,” I decided to move to Minneapolis. It was a good move.
I bring a strong sense of design and meticulous lighting to my work. I am forever chasing light in my goal to make the perfect image.
I am passionate about photography and have the good fortune to make it my life’s work!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the images.
